Filling the water system correctly
There are a few things worth noting when filling the water tank. First of all, be mindful of the vehicle’s MTPLM as the vehicle will be a few kilos heavier with a full water tank. If you are approaching a critical weight here, you can balance it out by packing less. After all, luggage isn’t weightless!
Never operate the water pump when the water tank is empty. The water volume can be checked on the panel while the water tank is being filled (Autonomy package).
Water supply
Generally speaking, the fresh water tank should be flushed with clean water on a regular basis. Before turning the water system back on, take a look at the sealing surfaces: Are they dirty and do they need to be cleaned? Once you’ve spruced them up again, you can also lubricate the sealing areas with Vaseline. Then reinsert the tube and turn it slightly to protect the seal. Now it’s time to clean the water system. Mix water with a splash of disinfectant here and use it to rinse the entire system.
Now check that the wastewater tank is working and check all pipes for leaks. Then give everything a thorough clean. If your caravan has a ‘city’ water connection, you can check for leaks and correct functioning at the water taps. Don’t forget to take a closer look at the pump. Open one of the water taps and check whether the pump starts and works as usual. You can also check whether the tanks’ drains are doing their job and are still leakproof, as well as whether the vehicle’s drain pipes are leakproof. You should also be mindful that the pipes need to be tilted throughout the system. If they are level, they will block more easily.
How exactly does disinfecting work?
Start by emptying the entire water system, closing the drain and shutting off the drain cocks. Mix clean water with disinfectant. Consult information provided by the manufacturer for the ratio of disinfectant to water. Fill the water tank with this mixture and then open each of the drain cocks in turn. Leave them open until the diluted disinfectant actually reaches the respective outlet. Then you can close the drain cocks again.
JYou can now set all water taps to ‘hot’ and open them. Leave them on until the diluted disinfectant reaches the spout. Then turn all water taps to cold, put them on and repeat the process until the diluted disinfectant reaches the spout. Now close all water taps again.
Flush the toilet several times, so that the disinfectant made in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines can do its job. Then empty the water system again. Please collect the diluted disinfectant and dispose of it correctly. To rinse out the entire water system, flush the system with drinking water several times.
